Mopar Celebrates 75th Anniversary

How much do you know about Mopar, Chrysler's parts and accessories arm? A contraction of the words "motor" and "parts," the brand has grown from antifreeze in 1937 to 280,000 catalog items and 500,000 parts and accessories in over 120 countries. This year, they're celebrating their 75th anniversary, and in honor of the milestone, they've announced four custom vehicles, set to make their debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

"Customization is king," says Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar. "These head-turning 'Moparized' vehicles show how we can go to the next level of personalization. With our best-in-class offerings of parts and accessories, we give our customers every opportunity to further enhance the appearance and performance of their vehicles."1

So what kind of customization is on tap for Chicago? Well, to start, the Mopar '12 300, a completely transformed Chrysler 300. Under the hood? A 363 horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with four-cylinder Fuel Saver Technology. Mated to a five-speed W5A580 automatic transmission, it also comes with a specialty Mopar shifter and Auto Stick that allows drivers to select the gear with protection from over-rev conditions. Mopar retuned the differential for better acceleration, and the '12 zips from 0-60 in just about five seconds. The track-tuned suspension delivers expert handling, further enhanced by Goodyear Eagle F1 three-season tires and high-performance brake linings.

But of course, the fierce looks of the Mopar '12 300 are what really set it apart. Gloss Black paint; black-accented  headlamp bezels and fascia accents; 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels in Gloss Black; a monotone black interior accented in blue; leather-appointed seats; and of course a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob in, you guessed it, black. Mopar badging throughout the interior and exterior, hydrographic accents on the instrument panel and center console, and Piano Black on the gauge and door panels round out all of the super-sleek interior touches.

Available this summer, the Mopar '12 300 will also feature the best in infotainment and safety features. MSRP starts at about $49,700 - but if you want one, you better hurry; they'll only be making 500 of them! And that's just one of the four 'Moparized' vehicles set to celebrate the company's 75th anniversary this year. The others include a 2013 Dart DTS 210 Tribute, 2012 Fiat Stinger, and the Mopar Jeep Compass Truth North.

While we're particularly excited to see the Mopar '12 300, you can be sure that all of these cars embody the powerful performance and eye-catching design that has defined Mopar since they first trademarked their name 75 years ago.
